Known affectionately as "The Content Wrangler," Scott Abel is the Founder and CEO of The Content Wrangler, an international content strategy consultancy specializing in helping organizations improve how they author, maintain, publish and deliver product information. Scott's goal is to help organizations create exceptional customer experiences powered by content.
Scott’s goal is to help business leaders understand the need to connect prospects and existing customers to the right information, at the right time, in the correct format and language, and on the device of the content consumers choice.
Scott produces content industry events of interest for technical communication pros, including Technical Documentation Roundup, and Information Development World. Along with enterprise content strategy guru Ann Rockley, Scott created the Intelligent Content Conference, an annual event the two content strategists sold to Content Marketing Institute in 2014.
He has been recognized as a technical documentation industry expert by the Society for Technical Communication. The honor of Fellow was conferred upon Scott in 2021 for producing educational opportunities for technical communicators and for the interdisciplinary promotion of the profession.
In 2022, Scott convinced the Software Industry Information Association to add a new category to the annual CODiE Awards competition in 2023 to evaluate knowledge bases and customer support sites. He wrote the judging criteria for the new CODiE Awards category and nominated experts to serve as reviewers.
Scott is a founding member of Content Management Professionals and writes regularly for content industry publications, including a column in the Society for Technical Communication magazine, Intercom, called "Meet the Change Agents."
Scott hosts a popular series of free, educational webinars on The Content Wrangler Channel on BrightTALK. He co-hosts a twice-monthly talk show, Coffee and Content (with Patrick Bosek, CEO of Heretto).
Scott's company produces The Content Wrangler Series of Content Strategy Books, the most recent of which include “Content Audits and Inventories: A Handbook for Content Analysis” by Paula Land, “The Language of Learning” by Phylise Banner and Dawn J. Mahoney, and "Voice and Tone Strategy: Connecting With People Through Content" by John Caldwell. The series also includes several books in which Scott collaborated with 52 experts to define the vocabulary and explain the terms of importance to professional information management teams surrounding technical communication, localization, content strategy, learning, and cybersecurity.
Scott has served as a lecturer at the School of Information at the University of California Berkeley. He's also on the board of directors for the Customer Experience Certificate Program at the University of California Santa Barbara Professional and Continuing Education Extension.
Scott is also an internationally recognized content strategist and vibrant keynote speaker.
