California has a new rule technical writers should know about. Starting January 1, 2027, businesses covered by the California Consumer Privacy Act must explain to consumers how they use automated decision-making technology, or ADMT, to make certain high-stakes decisions. Someone (likely you) will have to write those explanations, and the information they are required to contain may not be in your existing product documentation.
