Microsoft Manual of Style For Technical Publications 3.0: Free Download

Did you know that you can download a free copy of the Microsoft Manual Of Style For Technical Publications 3.0? To get your copy, visit the download page. The file provided is a CHM file that runs on Microsoft 95 and above. No Macintosh version is available at this time. According to Microsoft: “This guide is intended to give clear, up-to-date, and easy-to-use advice about usage and spelling of both general and computer-related terms, sentence style, technical writing issues, and design and interface elements.”

“The purpose of the revision (version 3.0) is to add new terms and concepts, particularly those dealing with the Internet and the World Wide Web, to the extent that changing world stands still. It also includes more technical terms and suggests that some terms not acceptable to a general audience are acceptable or necessary in some technical documents.”

“As before, this guide is to help Microsoft writers and editors maintain consistency within and across products. It is not a set of rules. It does provide guidelines that have been discussed and reviewed by experienced writers and editors across the company. These guidelines represent their expertise and opinions of what best serves Microsoft documentation teams and their customers.”

If the printed version is more to your liking, or you’d like to order this publication on compact disc, you can learn more about these products here.
