Let The Music Play: Saving Internet Radio

If you’re a music lover, you may already be one of millions of subscribers who listen to internet radio services like Pandora or LastFM. But a recent ruling by the Copyright Royalty Board may put an end to the popular web radio services. The ruling increases webcasters’ royalty rates between 300 and 1200 percent over the next 5 years, jeopardizing the industry and threatening to homogenize Internet radio, internet broadcasters complain.

Join SaveNetRadio, a coalition made up of artists, labels, listeners, and webcasters whose goal is to force the U.S. Congress to “create a structural solution for this problem and create an environment where Internet radio, and the millions of artists it features, can continue to grow for generations to come.”

The coalition says its members “believe strongly in compensating artists” but fear that the new royalties are unfair and may actually kill internet radio as it exists today.
